Voice detection profiles
A VAD profile tunes how Dino hears the end of a caller's turn. Each account starts with a read-only Default profile. Create your own when the default cuts callers off or waits too long.
Where a profile applies
Transport VAD runs the Silero model in one of two modes. A profile supplies the same five settings to either mode.
| Mode | Audio into Silero |
|---|---|
vox_vad_lite | Incoming PCM, no level normalization |
vox_vad_enterprise | PCM normalized toward a telephony level, then Silero |
Profiles apply only to these two modes. partner_vad and transport_client_vad reject a profile ID. Simulations use automatic VAD and take no profile.
The five settings
| Setting | Flag | Valid value |
|---|---|---|
| Start threshold | --start-threshold | 0–1, greater than the end threshold |
| End threshold | --end-threshold | 0–1, less than the start threshold |
| Start delay | --start-ms | 0–2000 ms of speech before start fires |
| End delay | --end-ms | 0–5000 ms of silence before end fires |
| Smoothing | --smoothing-alpha | greater than 0, at most 1 |
Higher smoothing-alpha weights the newest probability more; lower values smooth harder. The CLI rejects out-of-range values instead of clamping them.
Manage profiles
Prompt your AI agent
Recommendedtext
Use the `dino-pong` skill to manage a VAD profile.
Goal: <callers get cut off | long pauses before the agent replies>.
List the current profiles first and show me the Default values.
Propose new settings, show the exact command, and wait for approval before any change.Use the Dino CLI directly

dino account vad-profile list
dino account vad-profile get --profile-id <profile-id>
# Create (all settings required), after approval:
dino account vad-profile create --name <name> \
--start-threshold <0-1> --end-threshold <0-1> \
--start-ms <0-2000> --end-ms <0-5000> --smoothing-alpha <0-1> \
--confirm-mutation vadProfile.create
# Update one or more settings (omitted values are kept):
dino account vad-profile update --profile-id <profile-id> \
--end-ms <0-5000> --confirm-mutation vadProfile.update
# Delete:
dino account vad-profile delete --profile-id <profile-id> \
--confirm-mutation vadProfile.deleteAn Account Manager targets a managed Client's profiles with --for-client <email>.
Use a profile on a call
Pass the profile with the transport VAD mode:
agent preview-call:--vad-mode <mode> --vad-profile-id <profile-id>process create-batch|create-drip|create-inbound:--vad-mode <mode> --vad-profile-id <profile-id>experience assign|update:--vad-mode <mode> --vad-profile-id <profile-id>
Gotchas
- The
Defaultprofile is read-only and cannot be deleted. Copy its values into a new profile to adjust. - A profile is owner-scoped. Select one that belongs to the call owner.
- A process or Experience stores the profile ID, not a fixed revision. A later update affects new calls only.
- Never combine
--for-clientand--for-user.
